Extension and extensive remodel of a detached bungalow

MOORTOWN

BEFORE AND AFTER.jpg

PROJECT BRIEF

Abodhi were approached by a couple who had just purchased the outdated bungalow after downsizing for their retirement. An improved bathroom and ensuite arrangement was desired along with a much more sociable open plan kitchen space at the rear of the property. A single storey extension the full width of the house at the rear was proposed to accommodate the brief.

CONSTRUCTION

The proposed extension was designed to be double height with the ceiling line following the roof shape. Along with carefully considered positioning of rooflights, this ensures maximum natural daylighting and the volume feels light and airy. The existing structure was utilised as much as possible to help reduce project costs.

INTERIOR DESIGN

We worked closely with the kitchen designers to ensure the layout and functionality wasn't lost. A hard wearing wood effect floor ensured the space was durable and pet friendly.

DESIGN FEATURES

The decorating was kept reasonably minimalist to allow the clients taste in art to be the focal point of the room. A feature wallpaper was used to add interest and make the room appear even bigger. Feature chandeliers make the most of the newly discovered ceiling heights.

COMPLETION

The clients were extremely happy with the final product as it provided the exact solution to their current and future needs, giving them a house that they are confident won't require any modification in the foreseeable future. All rooms are level access and wheelchair friendly.
